10 августа 1966 года Центральный банк США прекратил выпуск банкнот номиналом 2 доллара. Однако через 10 лет, в 1976 году, в честь двухсотлетия США была выпущена еще одна ограниченная партия этих купюр. На популярность двухдолларовой купюры могла оказать влияние и ее востребованность среди барменов и официантов. Те старались дать именно эту банкноту на сдачу, чтобы потом ее же получить обратно в виде чаевых. Ведь согласитесь, намного приятнее получить два доллара вместо одного.
