Не только нумизматы наслышаны о редкой и практически легендарной купюре номиналом 2 доллара. Если вы попросите кого-то из друзей, путешествующих в США, привезти именно эту банкноту, скорее всего они не смогут выполнить эту просьбу.
Далеко не все американцы держали в руках два доллара одной купюрой, ведь встретить ее в свободном обороте достаточно сложно. А те, кто пытался ею расплатиться, даже сталкивались с трудностями.
10 августа 1966 года Центральный банк США прекратил выпуск банкнот номиналом 2 доллара. Однако через 10 лет, в 1976 году, в честь двухсотлетия США была выпущена еще одна ограниченная партия этих купюр. Именно выпуск этого года считается коллекционным, а вот в денежных операциях он не был востребован. К 1995 году, когда выпустили новую серию, эти банкноты почти исчезли. Но в чем же причина?
С момента своего появления двухдолларовые купюры не пользовались популярностью у банков и населения. Объяснений этому есть много. Например, в большинстве кассовых аппаратов не было предусмотрено отдельного места для этих банкнот. Также бытует мнение, что двухдолларовую купюру можно легко спутать с однодолларовой, что влекло за собой некоторые неудобства.
С купюрой в 2 доллара связано также много легенд и загадок. Одна из них, например, гласит, что наличие этой банкноты в кошельке принесет больше денег и счастье владельцу. Некоторые, наоборот, считают купюру несчастливой.
Некоторые суеверия гласят о том, что стандартные ставки в американских скачках составляли два доллара. Если у человека было много купюр этим номиналом, его могли посчитать любителем тотализаторов. Другая легенда связана с любителями дам легкого поведения. Дело в том, что во время войны во Вьетнаме представительницы древнейшей профессии брали минимальную плату за свои услуги в размере 2 доллара. Владельца этих мелких купюр могли ошибочно посчитать любителем доступных ласк. А в таком случае достопочтенный гражданин мог забыть о профессиональной карьере.
Двухдолларовая купюра была связана и с политикой. До введения в США запрета на покупку предвыборных голосов можно было продавать свой голос. Стоимость его составляла все те же 2 доллара. Следовательно, наличие этой купюры у человека могло означать то, что он продал голос и предал кандидата.
На популярность двухдолларовой купюры могла оказать влияние и ее востребованность среди барменов и официантов. Те старались дать именно эту банкноту на сдачу, чтобы потом ее же получить обратно в виде чаевых. Ведь согласитесь, намного приятнее получить два доллара вместо одного.
Непопулярна купюра у карточных игроков, поскольку ее номинал совпадает с младшей картой в игровой колоде.
Таким образом, мистические два доллара для кого-то являются талисманом, а кто-то считает их «черной меткой». В любом случае, для нумизматов эта купюра представляет большой интерес, ведь встретить двухдолларовую банкноту в обращении можно действительно очень редко.
